I recently ran into this mini project from students of FEI Jun‘s media lab at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (courtesy of NO+CH). They call them “micro-observations”, and according to the students, serve “not merely as a magnification of the thing itself, but as an enlargement of the act of noticing. ‘Micro-observations’ bring about not only a paying attention to the unnecessary, but in revisiting these objects the transformation of their semantic meaning.” Nice public intervention~

ZHANG Baozhu

nice, I like the project. it seems that after your obs. on ballsy – the village, interventions and baozi, wild seeding and this, time is coming for a homeshop new edition on public space … and time to go global too? i was recently discussing with someone..talking about western african cities. He was saying that there is no real public space in those cities, but primarily because there is no private space. we already talked a bit about this issue, is there anything private anymore? but convergently it seems difficult to have a real public space without having the possibility of being anonymous. so, what are the borders or private and public?

i don’t know enough to say global yet, but at least to beixinqiao! we’re moving very very soon, i think will be done by the time you arrive (hurrah)!

the public/private question is the perennial one, yes—lurking about obliquely and/or in the face. these days even the thoughts of ballsy find their way around a public/private question—wait until you get here, hope we can talk more…
