This is a sneak-peak-foreshadowing-harbinger kind of thing of some up and coming plans at HomeShop, tied in ever so subtly to this year’s 有种 BALLSY series. We have actually been a bit more subtle-quiet-uneventful than in previous series, but mind you this may also have to do with some deep internalisation that any real ballsy-ness requires. I―ahem, E.S.!―would like to understand BALLSY with reference to that constant movement, perhaps of the sort that Agamben speaks about, always in relation to lack, but not necessarily productivity (relief in new one-liners: A Designer Who Does Not Produce). There is a movement whereby “that which if it is, is as if it wasn’t, it lacks itself (manca a se stesso), and if it isn’t, is as if it was, it exceeds itself.”

You may have no clue what we’re getting at here, but little monkey let’s just leave it at that for now. If you would like more information or the recipe for 吴以楠 WU Yinan‘s beauty balls, just leave a comment to this post.

    …you talking to me?
I had a conversation with the coffee-meister today (while eating your lunch, sorry you missed that), where I tried to describe my enthusiasm for Agamben’s gesture. But he was slightly skeptical about the whole thing. I think he worries about it’s unproductive futility – he’s much more idealistic than I am that there should be a productive potential result behind the gesture. Not that I think nothing will come of them of course, but I don’t see that as something to work towards, necessarily. Tomorrow I will read up your link and see where that leaves my thinking.

oh god, Agamben’s words and ideas simply seduce me (into thought, I should add).

I’m definitely with him on this point: “here we must reclaim the absence of opera as central.” Trying to think this as I continuously fail to get beyond a mass of notes for the article…

    embody the movement e!

and like Uli, I need energy, and good thoughts right now, so share the secrets…

beauty to energy connection is a little bit unclear, but here is the recipe for beauty balls, via 吴以楠 WU Yinan (who learned it from a 50 year old beauty guru):

    美容丸的方子 prescription for beauty balls

1/2 portion donkey-hide gelatin
1/2 portion rock sugar
1 portion pitless red dates
1 portion black cooked black sesame
1 portion walnuts

Mix the above ingredients in relative proportions with a blender until finely ground.

Add 2 portions of rice wine to your mixture and continue mixing to create a paste-like texture.

Cook the paste in a steamer for 90 minutes.

For more convenient eating, after steaming you can roll the paste into spoonful-sized balls. Store in a stay-fresh box in the refrigerator, and eat one ball per day. If you are suffering from flu or any allergic reactions occur, refrain from eating the beauty balls. Otherwise, one ball a day should allow you at the age of fifty to maintain the youthful skin of a 30 year old!

Uli, this may be a bit difficult for you to create in Vienna, but I’ve got a batch over here, all are welcome to come over and try! They taste kind of like chocolate, believe it not. Mr. Escdotdot, thank you for the words, hope Agamben can still encourage you to meet deadlines despite an absence of opera. I took a class with him this summer, quite amazing, will share more with you next time…
